Tuesday Aug 29, 2023
Tuesday Aug 29, 2023
Colonel, you'd better have a look at this radar, I don't know what it is but it looks like a giant.... Podcast. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan and Georgia (Meg's off on a Top Secret Mission) as we're headed to the 1960s in search of Dr Evil and Austin Powers' mojo in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. We're getting into fights on the Jerry Springer show in our 189th episode as we discuss:
- How our senses of humour can change as we age
- We discuss the much discussed scratch-off map
- Is this another one in a list of films where the panel prefers Ian's line reading to that of the actors in the film
- Which word makes Georgia's skin crawl
- Which Olympic events only occur for one gender and why is this
- Is this more a Dr Evil film than an Austin Powers film?
- There's an interesting theory presented regarding morality and cosmetic surgery in the AP series
- There's another case of the bootstrap paradox
- How does the script deal with Vanessa's ultimate character end (and the complications of time travel).
- Which song on the soundtrack do we love and which ones do we hate
- Which line was changed and Ian heavily approves of the new line over the old line
- Why does Felicity need to plant a tracking device on Fat Bastard
- What was Ian tempted to claim as his own when he moved to the UK
- Whether or not Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is the Best Film Ever

Tuesday Aug 22, 2023
Get ready for some conversations about if you like apples. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan and Georgia (Megan's trying to pick up a retainer in a job interview) as we're headed to MIT in search of a Fields Medal in Good Will Hunting. We certainly won't be unoriginal in our 188th episode as we discuss:
- Matt Damon and if he is the greatest actor of our time
- The various ways you can interpret the title and if the name of the protagonist ruins it
- Georgia checks in with which scenes made her cry in this film (it's not a short list)
- Why is Sean Maguire's freak-out so powerful
- Who did the studio want to play the Will & Chuckie parts instead of Matt & Ben?
- Who did Matt & Ben see playing the Sean Maguire role when they wrote it?
- What practical joke did Damon & Affleck play on the studios to see if they wrote the script
- Who is the unlikeliest hero of ensuring this film got made with Matt & Ben in the lead roles
- There's another good coda this week
- Whether or not Good Will Hunting is the Best Film Ever

On your marks... get set... technical difficulties! Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, and Georgia (Megan and Ethan weren't Ford type people) as we're heading to rural France in search of a 3 minute perfect lap and do our best to go 24 hours in reviewing it. We're all just trying to keep up with the leader as BFF of the BFE, Hermes Auslander blasts ahead regardless of the RPM count. We don't have Ethan or Megan to blame it on in our 187th episode as we discuss:
- Damon vs Bale - who's the better actor?
- Why did this film need 2 different titles in English speaking markets?
- Who were initially signed up to play the leads in an earlier draft?
- Don't ask me how but we got onto the Cuban Missile Crisis and the ongoing trade embargo somehow (the yellow button is ready for next week)
- We've got some technical gremlins in this episode and they're not quick fixes but we do power through - stay tuned for the longest BFE coda ever
- Hermes joins us and tries to rename the podcast
- Ian once again tries to re-write the ending of a film - He'd argue it's better
- We go over our chicken wing challenge in Cambridge and reveal who ate the most
- Whether or not Ford v Ferrari / Le Mans '66 is the Best Film Ever

A BFE Interview with ”That Guy” Larry Hankin
Saturday Aug 12, 2023
Saturday Aug 12, 2023
We had the pleasure of sitting down (virtually - although we were all seated) with "Mr Heckles" himself, Larry Hankin who was kind enough to give us over an hour of his time to discuss his career, his motivations, what excites him, what frustrates him and what he's working on now. Catch Ian & Georgia for the full cut of our previously excerpted interview where we discuss:
- His run on FRIENDS: when he knew it was going to be a hit show, which of the FRIENDS he most enjoyed working opposite and his inspiration for the part
- How he got involved with Seinfeld and how sometimes art inspires life as he talks about working with Michael Richards before
- His work on Home Alone - including what role he almost had and how the producers tried to do right by him and rid themselves of a curse
- How he ended up getting invited to The Oscars
- What inspired him to write his book, "That Guy" (available at all major online retailers) and what he's working on next

We're staying up til 2am thinking of an ending in our 186th episode as we discuss:

- How did they do the two big set pieces (the train and the dive)
- How many plot holes this film has in it
- We've got some technical gremlins in this episode
- How Megan can't be blamed for our bloated runtimes anymore
- Which actor got royally shafted in this film and why it absolutely had to be done

See It Or Skip It? - Oppenheimer
Friday Aug 04, 2023
Friday Aug 04, 2023
FIRST 34:30 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 34:30 it's a full spoiler review
We're back again and this time we're giving Oppenheimer the See It Or Skip It Treatment with Ian and Liam talking about their trip to see Oppenheimer last week as Ian finished his Oppenheimer double header. Did Cillian Murphy have an advantage by being somewhat unknown as far as leading a film? Also, how do you pronounce his first name? Did Christopher Nolan try and outclever us all again with this film? Where does this film rank in our listings of 2023's best? How about among Nolan's best? Will this win the box office in 2023? Was Oppenheimer behind the bomb anyways? Ian's also got a theory on the colour grading in this one. We'll answer all these questions on Oppenheimer and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Tuesday Aug 01, 2023
Tuesday Aug 01, 2023
You vow, we move! Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan, Megan, and Georgia as we're heading back to Sherwood Forrest after fighting in the Crusades with a Scottish King Richard in Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men In Tights. We're busy trying to find a pair of early 1990s Reeboks in our 185th episode as we discuss:
- A bonanza of yellow button moments
- We discuss how the rules are different for spoofs and also ask ourselves why these aren't done as often any more
- Whether this film has aged particularly well
- Our upcoming plans for the BFE day out in 2023
- Ethan's got many feelings about Elon Musk that he feels compelled to share at great length and emotional power
- 60% of the pod dressed for the occasion. Who dressed up and what did they wear?
- There's a moment where Ian laughs so hard he has to push the mic away. That might be a first.
- Whether or not Robin Hood: Men in Tights is the Best Film Ever

See It Or Skip It? - Barbie
Saturday Jul 29, 2023
Saturday Jul 29, 2023
FIRST 24:30 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 24:30 it's a full spoiler review
We're back again and this time we're giving Barbie the See It Or Skip It Treatment with Ian and Megan talking about their trip to see Barbie mid-week as Ian began his Oppenheimer double header. How does Margot Robbie handle the titular character? Why did a serious actor such as Ryan Gosling take on a piece in a film about a child's toy? Simu Liu and Michael Cera (2 more Canadians which brings our total to 3) join the cast - is there something distinctly Canadian about Barbie? Will this win the box office in 2023? How do we feel about the less than subtle ideology and did the film purposely mislead us as to what the story was in the trailer? We'll answer all these questions on Barbie and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Thursday Jul 20, 2023
Thursday Jul 20, 2023
FIRST 30:00 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 30:00 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're back with the undisputed King of the Box Office, Tom Cruise, in his quest for meaning in meaningless times in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. Ian & Liam are kicking it old-school as we look at Part One of the likely finale of our favourite train riding, mask wearing secret agent. Does old man Tom still have it? Why are there so many women in principal roles in this film? Has Kietrich lost a step after all this time? Are Mission Impossible films supposed to be this funny? Where do we rank the set pieces in this film against the memorable ones from other films? Did Ian just predict how the series ends in Part II? We'll answer all these questions on Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan, Megan, and Georgia (when was the last time we were all here?) as we're heading to Miami while avoiding reststops, hitchhikers, and many of the jokes in this film as we reviewed There's Something About Mary. We're trying to avoid the policeman crawling through the window in our 182nd episode as we dicuss:
- Our favourite Blink 182 songs
- Ian revisits his feelings on Cameron Diaz
- Who did the studio want in the role of Ted even less than Ben Stiller
- Whose agent turned down the role of Mary on behalf of their client?
- Ian explains the structure of how a joke is made and then provides caveats
- Georgia and Megan share some casting news of their own
- Ian and Liam share stories about their own recent drama event

Friday Jul 07, 2023
Friday Jul 07, 2023
FIRST 30:00 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 30:00 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're in search of another old relic (and we're not talking about Harrison Ford), as we join Indiana Jones on his quest for the Dial of Destiny. Ian & Liam are kicking it old-school as we look at the likely finale of our favourite grave-robbing archaeologist. Does old man Indy still have it? What's the dilemma between a limited Indy vs a superpowered Indy? How did the deaging process do with the uncanny valley? How did Phoebe Waller-Bridge do acting opposite Harrison Ford? Did it 'feel' like a Phoebe Waller-Bridge project? What other references are there to Indy's existing chronology? Where does this place in the canon of Indiana Jones films? We'll answer all these questions on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny? and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

- Which movie inspired the love story between A.J. and Grace in this film
- What kind of character Steve Buscemi thought he was signing up for
- Which actor almost got fired early in the film
- Who almost didn't survive the film thanks to an issue with a costume malfunction

Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, and Ethan (Liam, Megs, and Georgia kept their eyes open when the ark was opened) as we're travelling all over the world but we're doing it by map in the 1981 debut of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. We're digging in the right place in our 180th episode as we discuss:
- The hard to believe original name Lucas thought of for Indiana Jones
- The hard to believe original name cast as Indiana Jones
- What the appeal is for Indiana Jones in a world where James Bond exists
- An absolutely ludicrous idea George Lucas had for Marion's backstory
- Just how influential this film seems to be on blockbuster films (and television) in the last 45 years
- Which comic book villain sneaks into this film but might have been less brilliant and more lazy
- Whether or not Raiders of the Lost Ark is the Best Film Ever

Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan and Georgia (Meg's hiding under the stage, ready to tip the bucket) as we're heading to Prom with a guy that's got a helmet of hair in the Brian De Palma classic adaptation of Stephen King's horror debut, Carrie. We're doing etymology on 'dirty pillows' in our 179th episode as we discuss:
- The believeability that Carrie wouldn't have heard of a menstrual cycle at age 17
- The number of times that Miss Collins should have been fired in this film
- Whether the film made Sue & Tommy's intentions clear or if they purposely kept us in the dark (and how it's a much better film in one of those ways)
- Liam asks if we should forgive Carrie in the end
- Did they have to go the dream-sequence route in the final sequence?
- What exactly is Tommy's plan here? Why does he kiss Laurie?
- Whether or not Carrie is the Best Film Ever

Wednesday May 10, 2023
Wednesday May 10, 2023
FIRST 26:35 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 26:35 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're getting the gang back together one last time (The Guardians gang that is, the BFE have plenty left in the tank). Ian & Liam are kicking it old-school as we look at the likely finale of James Gunn's contribution to the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What do you do when you can't have the Guardians be quippy all the time? Did the parallel stories result in the bloating of the A plot to keep up with the B plot? Why can't we do a Guardians film without a decent villain. Does the film play fast and loose with the ramifications of alcohol addiction? We'll answer all these questions on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Sunday Apr 16, 2023
FIRST 34:00 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 34:00 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're grabbing some milk and picking up a Sports Illustrated at the till as we're on our way to Beaverton, Oregon and Nike Headquarters to see if we can sign the greatest ever to the greatest shoe deal ever in Air. Ian & Liam are kicking it old-school as we look at the story behind Nike's pursuit of Michael Jordan prior to the 1984-1985 NBA Season. Do you have to understand and/or follow basketball to access the story? What two things does the film build up as enigmas and why? Where does Matt Damon fit when we discuss the greatest working actors of our time? What else has Ben Affleck brought to the table as director? How does this film use nostalgia and dramatic irony to its advantage. How has this film already proven to be a slam dunk? We'll answer all these questions on Air and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

FRIENDS of the Podcast - The One With All the Poker
Friday Apr 14, 2023
Friday Apr 14, 2023
How you doin? We're back with FRIENDS of the Podcast: our Friends retrospective and could we be any more excited? Ian and Georgia are here on a FRIENDS Friday to discuss all things Season 1 of the hit 90s sitcom as we discuss Season 1, Episode 18: The One With All the Poker. We're trying to figure out who's bluffing and who's holding a flush as we discuss:
- Why the girls are so determined to play poker and then so angry when they have to pay up
- Why are Chandler and Joey so immature with Ross and why is he hiding his love for Rachel all of a sudden
- Whether Joey is the stupidest character at this point or is someone surpasses him
- Ian finds a loophole that would've allowed Joey to eat when Rachel says no
- We learn about the soundtrack to Ace Ventura but we differ about how relevant this information is
- Ian shares some poker etiquette that every character seems to break in this episode
- Georgia shares some of her thoughts and emotions post-CATS as we talk through the post-show blues
- We discuss which parts of the episode are the best for water cooler discussion

Episode 169 - Benny & Joon
Tuesday Apr 11, 2023
Tuesday Apr 11, 2023
When you wake up, well you know we're gonna be, we're gonna be the pod that did a couple of charcoal sketchings of you while you sleep. We know at almost 4 hours this episode might come off a little over-indulgent but this charming little film asks some big questions of its audience. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, and Megan (Georgia and Ethan are off searching for Tapioca pudding) as we're headed to Spokane, Washington to practice our Buster Keaton routine in Benny & Joon. We're playing poker for unusual stakes in our 169th episode as we discuss:
- Why Aidan Quinn wasn't the first actor cast as Benny
- Why Mary Stuart Masterson wasn't the first (or second) actress cast as Joon
- We try to figure out a diagnosis for Juniper as it then asks some deeper questions
- We ask if Sam is merely dim or if he's missing a diagnosis that would help answer these questions
- We talk about Buster Keaton, who he was and his influence on film in general
- We ask some questions about when you're allowed to enter the room of a sleeping guest
- We talk about how this rocketed The Proclaimers to One Hit Wonders across the United States and a lot of other places around the globe
- Liam is interested in the musical genre charts of other countries around the globe
- Ian finds it a little bit harder to get mic time this week
- Whether or not Benny & Joon is the Best Film Ever

FIRST 24:00 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 24:00 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're grabbing wrench, our controller and a hand full of mushrooms (not that kind) as we're headed down warp pipes to save a kingdom in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Ian's joined by The Yeetmeister as we look at a franchise that had to make a decision between nostalgia or growing a children's audence and certainly made a choice. Was the Chris Pratt controversy worth all the hassle? Which voice actors did a good job? How did the animation hold up? Did Illumination studios utilise the rich catalogue of Mario lore or did it fall to lazy extremes of childern's animated movies of the last decade? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

This week we're grabbing our character sheets, multi-sided dice (aren't all dice multi-sided?) and our lute and we're headed to the inside of a Dungeon Master's head while we all eat stale pizza in their basement as we saw Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Do you have to be familiar with the source material to enjoy this film? If not, is this a faithful adaptation of all things D&D? Does Michelle Rodriguez have range? What other franchises has Chris Pine been in? Has a film ever had so many magic do-hickeys and if not, does the fantasy genre forgive these sins? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

- What did we make of the ending of the big game?

- Do the Oscars need to earn back some credibility with the audience in the aftermath of 'The Slap'
- How much responsibilities should cinemas have for policing the behaviour of their guests?
- We talk The Flash post Super Bowl trailer (could it be any more Keaton?)

This week we're headed to the Quantum Realm and trying to keep together conversations about multiverses and aberrant timelines and maybe missing where blowtorches were procured as Ian welcomes BFF of the BFE, Hermes Auslander from The Scuttlebutt Podcast to talk about the third in the Scott Lang trilogy in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. Is this Paul Rudd's best performance in the 3 films? Is Evangeline Lilly bad in this or just the victim of poor writing? Why did they replace Cassie Lang and is she better in this? How does Hermes know so much about theoretical physics? Is it possible that Ant-Man is only the 3rd most important character in this movie? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Friday Jan 13, 2023
Friday Jan 13, 2023
We have previously spoken with directors, writers, cinematographers, and actors but we had never spoken with a composer before. That ends today as Ian and Georgia were joined by frequent Shipwrecked collaborator, Dylan Glatthorn, who gave us over an hour of his time exploring both his role in composing the score for Headless, and his overall journey as a composer for screen and stage. Revelations from the interview include:

- What is picture lock and why that is just the start of his job
- Dylan's inspirations for key sequences within the score of Headless

- Just how many instruments it takes to score a web series
- Recent movie scores that have impressed Dylan
- Ian asks Dylan to pick between John Williams and Hans Zimmer and Dylan flips the script
- How is there a WWE/Shipwrecked shared universe thanks to Dylan and Director William J. Stribling

Sunday Jan 08, 2023
Happy New Year! Another bonus episode for your listening enjoyment as we bring you another Reel Roundtable discussion. Ethan, Georgia, Ian, and Liam look back on the films they've reviewed in 2022 and have some awards to hand out in the form of The Besties. Comments, banter, and flat out arguments can be found as we debate the best that we saw in 2022 (A full list of award categories and eligible films are located at the bottom of these notes)
This year we're thrilled to have ballots from seven of our patrons (Cheezy, Lina Oberholzer, Hermes, Nate the Great, Duane Smith, Andy Dickson, & Ensign Ian Davies) to help determine the winners.
If you have any ideas about future actors/actresses or topics for future roundtables, we’d love to hear from you. Hit us up at @BestFilmEverPod on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

FRIENDS of the Podcast: The One With the East German Laundry Detergent
Friday Jan 06, 2023
Friday Jan 06, 2023
We're launching our as of yet untitled Friends retrospective and could we be any more excited? Ian and Georgia are here on a Friends Friday to discuss all things Season 1 of the hit 90s sitcom that arguably transcends era. Stories and plot continuity crashes are aplenty in our first episode as we discuss:
- The kind of retconning FRIENDS had to do to itself post-pilot to give the audience a longer chase with Ross & Rachel
- How Ross really had no better shot with Rachel in Season 1 than he does at the end of this episode
- How this episode may have been one of two shot and released out of order
- We introduce you to Mimi the Meanie, and we get our first glimpses of Maggie Wheeler as Janice, only, is she Janice? When is Janice not Janice?
- The clever design of splitting the FRIENDS up into 3 twosomes
- We play 'how stupid is too stupid for Joey?'
- We also play 'how stupid is too stupid for Monica?'
- We discuss which parts of the episode are the best for water cooler discussion
- Ian comes up with arguably a better name for the episode
If you want to get in on the discussion, you can over on Twitter @bestfilmeverpod

Good morning, BFE!!! Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Ethan, and Georgia, as we're going all meta doing an audio performance about a film that focuses on audio performances. In our hearts we know we're truly funny in our 155th episode as we discuss:

- What are our respective New Year's Resolutions?
- When does a Robin Williams vehicle become a bad thing.
- What steps does the film go to in order to ensure we build allegiance to Robin Williams early
- Ian sees how far back he can remember presidential election winners
- We have the culmination of the cup capacity challenge
- What real-life TV personality took over Adrian Cronauer's radio spot
- We discuss Bruno Kirby at length. Is he a bad actor or terrific at playing an unlikeable guy?
- We answer why Cronauer didn't play any Beatles tracks?
- We ask if Robin Williams could do this schtick or much of his schtick in 2023
- We celebrate our 1 year Patreon Anniversary
- Is this Robin Williams' Best Film?
- Whether or not Good Morning, Vitenam is the Best Film Ever

Episode 154 - Rocky IV (and BFE Xmas Party)
Saturday Dec 24, 2022
Saturday Dec 24, 2022
If he can change, and they can change, then maybe everybody can change. No, this isn't another Christmas Carol adaptation but rather Sylvester Stallone ending the cold war all by himself in Rocky IV. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew – Ian, Liam, and Georgia (Ethan's programming the robot) as we review perhaps the most 80s film there ever was. We're chopping down trees both literal and metaphorical in our 154th episode as we discuss:
- The lengths that Stallone & Lundgren went to in order to ensure legitimacy in the film
- Ian hypothesises that a 1972 goodwill ice hockey series may have served as an inspiration for Rocky IV
- Who's exactly watching the kid on Christmas Day and why does he have friends over?
- If this is the least likely Christmas Carol adaptation, who plays the various parts?
- There's a debate about cup sizes that has nothing to do with brassieres
- Georgia reveals she still doesn't like boxing films or the character of Rocky specifically
- We ask whether or not Apollo was written in the wrong way in this film
- Ian links the world of boxing and pro wrestling in a few different ways but especially a recent dynamic duo in the pro wrestling ranks and how they've clearly been inspired by Rocky IV
- We've got some Christmas Carollers who stop by to wish us their very best during the festive season
- Whether or not Rocky IV is the Best Film Ever

This week we're headed to Victory and trying not to ask any questions like "what are the men doing?", "what do they do at work all day?" and "why isn't Florence Pugh doing publicity for the film?" as Ian and Agent Scott from SpyHards talk about the Harry Style spittake in Don't Worry Darling? What exactly constitutes an open ending? Would Shia LaBeouf have done a better job here than Harry Styles? When did Chris Pine turn into a proper character actor? Is Florence Pugh a generational talent? Does the story here hold up to closer scrutiny? How vigorously should one eat their popcorn under certain circumstances? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Don't Worry, Darling and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan, and Georgia as we're striving to make first chair in the Shaffer Conservatory Studio Band as we review the independent darling, Whiplash, brought to us by BFF of the BFE, Hermes. Never has a film caused such debate about the overall message of the film and whether a film's plot means an endorsement of the material covered within. - Where does Liam know Nicole from?
- Just how long was the shooting schedule for this film?
- Does the film come down on whether the ends justify the means?
- What does it mean to peak at 19?
- We discover that when reviewing films, some of us are rushing while others are dragging

"Everyone, deep in their hearts, is waiting for the end of the world to come." Mark Twain was not an optimist. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Ethan, and Georgia (Liam's getting his dog a mortgage) as we're trying to find a 'mortgage finance for dummies' textbook as we review the financial real-life story, The Big Short. Thankfully we're joined by Alex from Main St. Finance to help unpick the many (and I mean many) questions Georgia had regarding the financial speak in this film. We're looking to swap shorts in our 140th episode as we discuss:
- Why was this film such a departure for Adam Scott
- What exactly is a short and why does the bank engage with this sort of stuff
- Are there accessibility problems for this film dependent on age, location, and personal history?
- What did we make of the 4th wall breaks and self-aware tone?
- If you like Georgia's face blindness - this is a film for you
- Did the film need a more movie-friendly ending?
- Does this movie have a hero? Is it important to have one?
- We share a little bit about our personal experiences regarding getting on the property ladder in a post Big Short world
- Whether or not The Big Short is the Best Film Ever

Friday Sep 09, 2022
Friday Sep 09, 2022
Your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew continue to try their hands at a little Web Series Pilot Analysis by discussing all the first episode of Headless. Ian and Georgia are both learning the route but have flown on the airline a few times before. We're trying to figure out if we can connect to Bing on the flight as we discuss:
- The sense of humour Sean & Sinead Persaud have and what other media property it reminds us of
- We fawn over the production values in the pilot episode
- What enigmas does the series present to entice us to come back
- Can you incorporate an overly woke villain in a sense that's not heavily ironic?
- Ian throws a little teacher-gripe with the presentation of education in a cutaway
- Is Ichabod paying attention to his own narrative?
- Ian and Georgia give their first impressions of the series, having never seen it before
- We also acknowledge our propensity to approve of Shipwrecked's stuff
- Would we ground the Headless pilot or is it Cleared for Takeoff?

Liam's emptying the chamber in our 138th episode as we discuss:

- Why cast the character of the drifter to appear for both Mildren and Dixon
- What else have we seen Sam Rockwell in and why doesn't he get his due?
- Why was Frances McDormand hesitant to do this film and who talked her into doing it?
- Is this the best Martin McDonagh film ever?
- How does Pip make his presence this week? We give him a title.

- What stops us from watching classics like Schindler's List
- Do you have to be a fan of Elvis to 'get' Baz Luhrmann's biopic of the King of Rock & Roll?

Episode 136 - Dirty Dancing
Tuesday Aug 23, 2022
Tuesday Aug 23, 2022
We had the time of our lives - and we owe it all to you. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan, and Georgia as we're heading to Kellerman's for summer camp in Dirty Dancing, a film with magical powers over women (and some men) for its 35th anniversary. We're hoping to avoid chickening out of the big lift in our 136th anniversary as we discuss:
- Who almost played Johnny Castle but screen tested terribly against Jennifer Grey
- Why we think Jennifer Grey didn't have the career of Sarah Jessica Parker
- How much does this film line up with Marvelous Mrs Maisel (season 2) and why might that actually not be an accident
- Is there a religious subplot in this film that no-one talks about regarding Baby's father's disapproval of Johnny Castle
- How good a job does this film do using the theatre of the mind to shock us in the abortion subplot
- Is this the best Patrick Swayze film ever?
- What other film do we know Baby's father from on the pod? How about the social convener?
- We need your help to settle a 3 way disagreement on the film?
- Whether or not Dirty Dancing is the Best Film Ever

What was the story here again? Which actors are very good and which actors are horrendous? Does this film have a villain problem? Which actor does Georgia label as 'very attractive'? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Elvis and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

We're talking Priuses in our 133rd episode as we discuss:
- How this film follows the format of a romantic comedy if you excuse the overwhelming trauma involved in the meet-cute
- Are we given enough time to feel sympathy for the characters in this film?
- What efforts did Ben Affleck go to in order to create an aura of legitimacy in this film
- Is Ben Affleck just remaking one of his other films and casting himself in the hero role, this go around
- Whether Doug is justified in his final kills or does he go too far
- Why does no-one pay attention to a character walking around with a duffel bag, ever
- Which actors and actresses really surprised us in this film and someone besides Georgia suffers from a little face blindness
- It's the return of Postlethwaite, and you know what that means
- We're joined once again by our BFF: Reverend Bruce and discuss Baseball, Boston, and some Dunkin' Donuts
- Georgia, Ian and Reverend Bruce all give their perspectives on how to deliver an affected accent

Friday Jul 29, 2022
FIRST 53:10 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 53:10 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're headed to Memphis, Vegas and all places in between (but definitely not overseas) as Ian and Liam talk about Baz Lurhmann's latest film, the biopic Elvis. Can a film be too Baz Lurhmann? Is Elvis the nicest guy who ever lived? Is Tom Hanks bad as Colonel Tom? Does Austin Butler deserve his Oscar buzz? What's the deal with the scene in the TV studio? We also go on an obscene amount of tangents and side conversations. Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Elvis and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.
