Saturday Feb 25, 2023
Saturday Feb 25, 2023
It's time to call the council to assemble. Join some of the very best in independent film podcasting as we catch up on a busy season in the world of cinema. We discuss a variety of topics in our fellowship of the film. Sitting around the table this month are Kevin from "The Podcast That Wouldn't Die", and Stew from "SWO Productions" Topics this month include:
- What did we make of Rihanna's halftime show at the Super Bowl?
- What did we make of the ending of the big game?
- Oscar Nominations are out. Should Top Gun: Maverick have a chance?
- Do the Oscars need to earn back some credibility with the audience in the aftermath of 'The Slap'
- How much responsibilities should cinemas have for policing the behaviour of their guests?
- We talk The Flash post Super Bowl trailer (could it be any more Keaton?)
- Is it possible that the all-male Best Director field actually acts as a guarantor for every other category? We discuss the proposed concept
- We then finish by drafting a roster of 6 films each as we try and predict the big 2023 releases that will bring home the most cash

AFTER 43:50 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're headed to the Quantum Realm and trying to keep together conversations about multiverses and aberrant timelines and maybe missing where blowtorches were procured as Ian welcomes BFF of the BFE, Hermes Auslander from The Scuttlebutt Podcast to talk about the third in the Scott Lang trilogy in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. Is this Paul Rudd's best performance in the 3 films? Is Evangeline Lilly bad in this or just the victim of poor writing? Why did they replace Cassie Lang and is she better in this? How does Hermes know so much about theoretical physics? Is it possible that Ant-Man is only the 3rd most important character in this movie? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Dylan Glatthorn: A BFE Interview - Headless, Shipwrecked & more
Friday Jan 13, 2023
Friday Jan 13, 2023
We have previously spoken with directors, writers, cinematographers, and actors but we had never spoken with a composer before. That ends today as Ian and Georgia were joined by frequent Shipwrecked collaborator, Dylan Glatthorn, who gave us over an hour of his time exploring both his role in composing the score for Headless, and his overall journey as a composer for screen and stage. Revelations from the interview include:
- Hearing how Dylan got his start from Florida to New York City
- What is picture lock and why that is just the start of his job
- Dylan's inspirations for key sequences within the score of Headless
- Which portions of the score took several goes to get to the perfect place
- Does Dylan start on Piano first and then move to other instruments or is there a different process at times
- Just how many instruments it takes to score a web series
- Recent movie scores that have impressed Dylan
- Ian asks Dylan to pick between John Williams and Hans Zimmer and Dylan flips the script
- How is there a WWE/Shipwrecked shared universe thanks to Dylan and Director William J. Stribling

We too want to be mentioned in the same breath as Mona Lisa. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan, and Georgia as we're heading to a remote Greek Island in the Aegean Sea as we review the Rian Johnson Netflix Original Film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, brought to us by BFF of the BFE, James DeGuzman. Why is it that BFF selected films cause such divisive analysis? We're cooling our overheated mouths from Jeremy Renner's hot sauce with Jared Leto's loaded kombucha in our 156th episode as we discuss:
- The appeal for Benoit Blanc after the initial Knives Out
- Who is the other adult in Blanc's house and what is their relationship?
- Is Dave Bautista the best wrestler turned actor ever?
- Who is Stavros and why is Ian so worried about him doing his job correctly?
- Is it possible for a human being to be an example of Chekov's Gun
- When do you stop inviting your ex to annual social events
- Ethan's internet plays up early, resulting in a lot of nervous energy
- Ian gives an update on the crazy week in the NFL and Fantasy Football
- We discuss fan culture and give our best to Jeremy Renner
- We find out who are the kings of the BFE cast lists
- We digest a subtle progression in the representation of women in bathing suits
- We're joined by James DeGuzman who shares his origin story with the BFE and provides us with some tie-breaking opinions
- We ask, how exactly can Netflix quantify the economic success of their original films under a subscription model?
- We teach Liam about NFTs
- James gives us our 2nd most profane random word ever, and the most profane we've ever let get through
- Whether or not Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is the Best Film Ever

FRIENDS of the Podcast: The One With the East German Laundry Detergent
Friday Jan 06, 2023
Friday Jan 06, 2023
We're launching our as of yet untitled Friends retrospective and could we be any more excited? Ian and Georgia are here on a Friends Friday to discuss all things Season 1 of the hit 90s sitcom that arguably transcends era. Stories and plot continuity crashes are aplenty in our first episode as we discuss:
- The kind of retconning FRIENDS had to do to itself post-pilot to give the audience a longer chase with Ross & Rachel
- How Ross really had no better shot with Rachel in Season 1 than he does at the end of this episode
- How this episode may have been one of two shot and released out of order
- We introduce you to Mimi the Meanie, and we get our first glimpses of Maggie Wheeler as Janice, only, is she Janice? When is Janice not Janice?
- The clever design of splitting the FRIENDS up into 3 twosomes
- We play 'how stupid is too stupid for Joey?'
- We also play 'how stupid is too stupid for Monica?'
- We discuss which parts of the episode are the best for water cooler discussion
- Ian comes up with arguably a better name for the episode
If you want to get in on the discussion, you can over on Twitter @bestfilmeverpod

- What are our respective New Year's Resolutions?
- When does a Robin Williams vehicle become a bad thing.
- What steps does the film go to in order to ensure we build allegiance to Robin Williams early
- Ian sees how far back he can remember presidential election winners
- We have the culmination of the cup capacity challenge
- What real-life TV personality took over Adrian Cronauer's radio spot
- We discuss Bruno Kirby at length. Is he a bad actor or terrific at playing an unlikeable guy?
- We answer why Cronauer didn't play any Beatles tracks?
- We ask if Robin Williams could do this schtick or much of his schtick in 2023
- We celebrate our 1 year Patreon Anniversary
- Is this Robin Williams' Best Film?

Episode 154 - Rocky IV (and BFE Xmas Party)
Saturday Dec 24, 2022
Saturday Dec 24, 2022
If he can change, and they can change, then maybe everybody can change. No, this isn't another Christmas Carol adaptation but rather Sylvester Stallone ending the cold war all by himself in Rocky IV. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew – Ian, Liam, and Georgia (Ethan's programming the robot) as we review perhaps the most 80s film there ever was. We're chopping down trees both literal and metaphorical in our 154th episode as we discuss:
- The lengths that Stallone & Lundgren went to in order to ensure legitimacy in the film
- Ian hypothesises that a 1972 goodwill ice hockey series may have served as an inspiration for Rocky IV
- Who's exactly watching the kid on Christmas Day and why does he have friends over?
- If this is the least likely Christmas Carol adaptation, who plays the various parts?
- There's a debate about cup sizes that has nothing to do with brassieres
- Georgia reveals she still doesn't like boxing films or the character of Rocky specifically
- We ask whether or not Apollo was written in the wrong way in this film
- Ian links the world of boxing and pro wrestling in a few different ways but especially a recent dynamic duo in the pro wrestling ranks and how they've clearly been inspired by Rocky IV
- We've got some Christmas Carollers who stop by to wish us their very best during the festive season
- Whether or not Rocky IV is the Best Film Ever

See It Or Skip It? - Don’t Worry, Darling (feat. Agent Scott from SpyHards)
Tuesday Nov 01, 2022
Tuesday Nov 01, 2022
FIRST 32:40 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict
AFTER 32:40 it's a full spoiler review
This week we're headed to Victory and trying not to ask any questions like "what are the men doing?", "what do they do at work all day?" and "why isn't Florence Pugh doing publicity for the film?" as Ian and Agent Scott from SpyHards talk about the Harry Style spittake in Don't Worry Darling? What exactly constitutes an open ending? Would Shia LaBeouf have done a better job here than Harry Styles? When did Chris Pine turn into a proper character actor? Is Florence Pugh a generational talent? Does the story here hold up to closer scrutiny? How vigorously should one eat their popcorn under certain circumstances? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Don't Worry, Darling and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Ethan, and Georgia (Liam's getting his dog a mortgage) as we're trying to find a 'mortgage finance for dummies' textbook as we review the financial real-life story, The Big Short. Thankfully we're joined by Alex from Main St. Finance to help unpick the many (and I mean many) questions Georgia had regarding the financial speak in this film. We're looking to swap shorts in our 140th episode as we discuss:
- Why was this film such a departure for Adam Scott
- What exactly is a short and why does the bank engage with this sort of stuff
- Are there accessibility problems for this film dependent on age, location, and personal history?
- What did we make of the 4th wall breaks and self-aware tone?
- If you like Georgia's face blindness - this is a film for you
- Did the film need a more movie-friendly ending?
- Does this movie have a hero? Is it important to have one?
- We share a little bit about our personal experiences regarding getting on the property ladder in a post Big Short world

Cleared For Takeoff? - Headless
Friday Sep 09, 2022
Friday Sep 09, 2022
Your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew continue to try their hands at a little Web Series Pilot Analysis by discussing all the first episode of Headless. Ian and Georgia are both learning the route but have flown on the airline a few times before. We're trying to figure out if we can connect to Bing on the flight as we discuss:
- The sense of humour Sean & Sinead Persaud have and what other media property it reminds us of
- We fawn over the production values in the pilot episode
- What enigmas does the series present to entice us to come back
- Can you incorporate an overly woke villain in a sense that's not heavily ironic?
- Ian throws a little teacher-gripe with the presentation of education in a cutaway
- Is Ichabod paying attention to his own narrative?
- Ian and Georgia give their first impressions of the series, having never seen it before
- We also acknowledge our propensity to approve of Shipwrecked's stuff
- Would we ground the Headless pilot or is it Cleared for Takeoff?

Liam's emptying the chamber in our 138th episode as we discuss:

- Why cast the character of the drifter to appear for both Mildren and Dixon
- What else have we seen Sam Rockwell in and why doesn't he get his due?
- Why was Frances McDormand hesitant to do this film and who talked her into doing it?
- Is this the best Martin McDonagh film ever?

- What stops us from watching classics like Schindler's List
- Do you have to be a fan of Elvis to 'get' Baz Luhrmann's biopic of the King of Rock & Roll?
